Advice about Mattresses

Mattresses maintenance.

Now we will explain a few simple maintenance rules, that will help you make your mattress last longer:

AERATION

If we make our beds everyday as soon as we wake up, the mattress won’t be able to breath, and as a result, it will start accumulating odors. Furthermore, as in the summer season we tend to sweat way more than during the rest of the year, it’s convenient to let your mattress breath between thirty minutes to an hour everyday.

FLIPING

Since not all the parts of our body weigh the same , and our partner, if any, probably weights differently than us, it is recommended to flip and rotate our mattress to avoid its deformation. You should flip your mattress every three months as well as rotating it from left to right and from head to toes (except for Memory mattresses which you only have to flip over).

CLEANING

We recommend that you clean your mattress often, using a vacuum-cleaner to remove dust and dust mites.

THE CHOICE OF MATTRESSES

TO ENSURE GOOD REST IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SELECT THE RIGHT MATTRESS FOR YOU. FIRMNESS AND MATERIAL ARE VERY IMPORTANT THINGS TO HAVE IN MIND. THERE’S NO MATTRESS THAT ELIMINATES 100% OUR UNEASE AND PAIN, AS THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS MIRACLES, AT LEAST NOT WHEN IT COMES TO MATTRESSES AND REST. BUT A GOOD MATTRESS WILL DEFINITELY GIVE YOU A BETTER REST, WILL RELIEF BACK PAIN, REDUCE INSOMNIA PROBLEMS ETC..

HOW SHOULD YOUR FUTURE MATTRESS BE?

Experts recommend that the optimum mattress for good rest will be softer and fluffier in areas where there’s more body weight, like the shoulders and pelvis area, and firmer in lighter areas of the body. A good mattress is the one that supports the whole column when lying on your back or on your side. The mattress should never be to firm or too soft, as if it’s too firm it will create tension throughout the back, and if it’s too soft the back will short of hang and the muscles will get very tensed when replenishing the original position of the body.

IMPORTANCE OF OUR CHOICE

We spend a third part of our lives in bed. Something as important as sleep is not just a matter of quantity but also quality. It is of no use to get eight hours of sleep if it’s on an inadequate mattress or pillow, that prevents you from getting good rest. Having a good day depends on having a good night sleep with a good sleeping equipment. Do not skimp when purchasing the components of your bed. Consider this expense as an investment in your health.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF RECOMMENDED MATTRESSES

SPRING MATTRESSES

These are definitely best sellers, but not because of this they are the best ones. Spring mattresses offer different levels of firmness, depending on the amount and type of layers between the springs case and the outer fabric, as well as by the type of springs. When choosing this type of mattresses you have to resort to the highest quality ones if you want to obtain good results, considering that the most recommended ones are the ones that combine latex or viscoelastic with springs. We recommend you get an upholstered base

LATEX MATTRESSES.

These are a very good investment for a good rest. This type of mattresses have an excellent adaptation without loosing any necessary firmness, (as they are non-deformable) whether we sleep on our back or on the side, the result will be adequate. Latex mattresses are antiallergenic, resistant to dust, and dirt thanks to their lack of static charges. They are athermal which makes them perfectly adapt to our body temperature, they also last longer as they do not carry any type of mechanism unlike spring mattresses. This mattresses are also the perfect choice for people who sweat a lot or have to spend a lot of time in bed. Latex mattresses support hydrolysis, which means they can be washed, even with soap or steam. Recommended base: multi slatted frame.

VISCOELASTIC MATTRESSES

Although viscoelastic mattresses are firmer, they have very similar characteristics and properties with the latex ones. The mattress core consists of two parts: the top one made with a material called viscoelastic that adapts itself in a very smooth and nice way to our body, giving a feeling of weightlessness; and an inferior part, that acts as a support of the upper one, it is composed of a firm rubbery surface called HR-35. Recommended base: upholstered base or multi slatted frame.

IDEAL MESSURES OF A MATTRESS AND A BASE

Due to the room dimensions or because of esthetic purposes, we can’t always get the ideal mattress size, many times because we consider more important the appearance of the room, than our comfort or health. The recommended width would be 90cm for single beds and 150 to 180cm for double or queen sized beds. In both cases, the length should be at least 10cm longer than the height of the person sleeping on it.
